The Character of Jesus by
A Portion of God in Christ and The Character of Jesus
Horace Bushnell (1802-1876) was born in the village of Bantam, township of Litchfield, Connecticut.
Two of his most interesting works are God in Christ and The Character of Jesus. God in Christ was published in 1849 and caused quite a stir. The views of the doctrine of the trinity expressed in this work were obnoxious to many of Bushnell’s fellow clergymen, and he was brought before the association of Congregational ministers, of which he was a member, to answer to a charge of heresy. He defended himself with much skill, and the charge was not sustained.
